Absentee Ballot Deadline:

October 18, 2021 - Last day for board of elections to receive application or letter of application by mail, online portal, email or fax for general election ballot. §8-400(2)(c). November 1, 2021 - Last day to apply in person for general election ballot. §8-400(2)(c).

Extended Hours of Operation and Deadline Notification

Chenango County Election Commissioners Mary Lou Monahan and Carol Franklin announced the Chenango County Board of Elections will offer extended hours to accommodate registered voters who wish to apply for an Absentee Ballot to vote in the November 2, 2021 General Election. Additionally, the countywide in-person Early Voting schedule was also provided. The office, located in the Chenango County Office Building, 5 Court Street, Norwich, is the site for both Absentee and Early Voting.

Tuesday, October 19, 9 AM – 7 PM
Saturday, October 23, 9 AM – 2 PM
Tuesday, October 26, 9 AM – 8 PM
Thursday, October 28, 9 AM – 8 PM
Saturday, October 30, 9 AM – 2 PM

Countywide Early Voting Hours
Saturdays & Sundays, October 23, 24, 30, 31 – 9 AM – 2 PM
Monday, Wednesday, Friday, October 25, 27, 29 – 9 AM – 5 PM
Tuesday and Thursday, October 26, 28 – 9 AM – 8 PM

1. A voter may vote absentee due to occupation, education, vacation, is permanently disabled or has an illness (caregivers caring for such voters are also eligible to vote absentee) that prevents them from voting at their local polling site on Election Day, being detained in jail awaiting Grand Jury action or confined in prison after conviction for an offense other than a felony. Temporary illness, including the risk of contracting COVID-19, remains a valid reason to vote absentee.

The deadline to apply in-person for an Absentee Ballot for the November 2, 2021 General Election is Monday, November 1, 2021.

If the Chenango County Absentee Ballot is not voted on the same day as completing the application, the ballot must be postmarked by General Election Day, November 2, 2021, or dropped off at the Chenango County Board of Elections during normal business hours or during Early Voting, or at a Chenango County Polling Site by the close of polls on Election Day.

The Voter Registration deadline for the November 2, 2021 General Election is Friday, October 8, 2021 for both in-person and postmarked registrations. All registration and Absentee Ballot applications can be requested by telephone, email, fax or downloaded from the Chenango County Board of Elections website at: Board of Elections (chenango.ny.us). Additionally, Absentee Ballots can be requested by October 18, 2021 through the New York State Board of Elections portal at: Voter Search Screen for Absentee Ballot Request (ny.gov).

The deadline voter registrations to be received at the Chenango County Board of Elections for registering to vote in the General Election to be held on November 2, 2021 is 5 PM Friday, October 8, 2021. Any questions: 607-337-1760 or 607-337-1761.

2021 Petition and Caucus Dates to Remember
- First day to circulate a Designating Petition is March 2, 2021. Filing dates are March 22-25 9 am to 5 pm.
- First day to hold a caucus is March 2, 2021. July 26, 2021 is the last date to file Certificate of Nomination.
- First day to circulate an Independent Petition is April 13, 2021. Filing dates are May 18-25 9 am 50 5 pm.

Early Voting for the Novemeber 2, 2021 General Election will be conducted at the Board of Elections, 5 Court Street, Norwich, NY on the following dates and times:

October 23, 24, 30 and 31 from 9AM to 2PM
October 25, 27 and 29 from 9AM to 5PM
October 26 and 28 9AM to 8PM

The Board of Elections office is the sole polling site in Chenango County for Early Voting. If you would like to request an absentee ballot, including concern for exposure to COVID-19, please click the link on the left side panel our website.

You can drop off your voted Chenango County Absentee Ballot during Early Voting at the Board of Elections office, or on Election Day at any Chenango County polling site. Absentee Ballots from other counties CANNOT be accepted in Chenango County.
