Outreach staff are able to visit seniors in their homes, providing information about programs that may be available to seniors. Outreach workers provide assistance in obtaining services and/or benefits to which seniors maybe entitled. They serve as advocates when seniors have difficulties in accessing benefits or services. Outreach staff are trained insurance counselors and are able to assist seniors at our office and provide assistance in the home.
We provide ongoing case management for clients receiving services through the Area Agency on Aging.
We work closely with other government agencies and community based organizations to link clients to programs and services that may not be directly provided by the Area Agency on Aging.
A PERS is an emergency telephone response system which connects the clients, via their telephone, directly to a 24-hour switchboard to provide immediate assistance in an emergency.

We provide education about Medicare, Medicaid, managed care, and other health insurance issues. We assist Medicare beneficiaries in accessing needed health care and help people apply for programs such as Medicare Part D (prescription drug plan), EPIC (Elderly Pharmaceutical Insurance Coverage), Low Income Subsidy and Medicare Savings Program.

Provides assistance to those income eligible person 60 years of age or older with their heating bills and maintenance of their heating systems. Referrals for weatherization are made to appropriate agencies.
Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance - HEAPLegal service is available to Chenango County residents who are 60 years of age and over. Priority is given to people seeking assistance with Social Security, SSI, Medicare, Medicaid, financial management, or adult protective services. There is a suggested contribution.

Consumer Directed Expanded In-Home Services for the Elderly Program (Consumer Directed EISEP). The Chenango County Area Agency on Aging intends to provide consumer directed personal care services to eligible clients when deemed the most appropriate service and as funding permits. It provides them with services and opportunities that will help them stay in their community and live as independently as possible.
The program also complements and supports the ongoing efforts of family caregivers, and makes the best use of the consumer’s personal and financial resources. By participating in this program the consumer identifies needs, sets priorities, and makes choices that seem best to them. If the consumer is unable to, independently oversee his/her plan, a friend or relative may be selected (by the consumer) to help. Call (607) 337-1770 for more information.
Our Veteran Services Agency provides Chenango County residents who served in the United States armed forces assistance obtaining any and all Veterans Administration (VA) benefits for which they may be eligible. There are no fees of associated with the assistance we provide.
