Farmers' Market

These are coupons for fruits and vegetables that can be purchased from local farmers’ markets. These are available in July to Chenango County residents, 60 years or older that fall into the income guidelines. Income guidelines change per year. Please call 337-1770 for more information.

Home Delivered Meals

Balanced meals are delivered to the homebound, including anyone age 60 years or older. Contributions are suggested, but not required.

To be eligible an individual must meet all three of the following criteria:

  • Is incapacitated due to accident, illness, or frailty;
  • Lacks the support of family, friends, or neighbors;
  • Is unable to prepare meals because of lack or inadequacy of facilities; inability to shop, cook or prepare meals safely; or lack knowledge or skill.

Call The Chenango County Area Agency on Aging at (607) 337-1770 for an intake. Referrals can be made by family, friends, or community agencies.

Nutrition Services

The Chenango County Area Agency on Aging Registered Dietitian oversees the nutrition services of Nutrition Counseling and Nutrition Education. These programs help to maintain and improve the health of seniors in the county.

  • Nutrition Counseling – Our Registered Dietitian provides individualized nutrition assessment and counseling for seniors and their caregivers. To schedule an appointment, call: (607) 337-1770.
  • Nutrition Education – Monthly nutrition informational handouts are provided by our Registered Dietitian to all meal recipients.
  • Congregate Dining – Hot nutritious meals* are provided at 7 sites around the county.  These are great places to socialize and nourish the body, mind and spirit to promote optimal well-being. These meals need to be reserved in advance by calling (607) 337-1770.
  • Home Delivered Meals – Balanced meals* are delivered to the homes of eligible frail seniors. (In-home assessment is required)

* Both meal programs are overseen by our NYS Certified, Registered Dietitian to ensure the meals provide at least 1/3 of the recommended intake for older adults, and follow the most current Dietary Guideline. The meals provide whole grains and fiber-rich fruits and vegetables, and are moderate in carbohydrate, fat and sodium.

Participants are encouraged to contribute to the cost of the service.  The suggested contribution is $3.50 for a congregate dining or home delivered meal.  No one will be denied due to an inability to contribute.

Senior Centers

The Senior Centers program provides a variety of activities, special programs and a nutritious meal. Reservations need to be made one day in advance. Contact your senior center, as listed below, for serving time.
